When was the last time you fell in love? Head over heels and unabashedly? Happens to me everyday when the Gambel's Quail bring their chicks over for a drink or a Cooper's Hawk pauses in a tree. Then I'm inspired to capture in paint & pencils the animals that share my Sonoran Desert home. Glazing with multiple layers of water media (acrylics or watercolor) or colored pencils & a respect to realism that they so richly deserve. I've succeeded when viewers say the eyes look back at them with a living sparkle. Working from life is essential to this effect as photographs can distort colors and forms. I'm happy to note that a day spent in a nature blind watching wildlife is all part of going to the office, um studio. Many of the works are created using frame-less Gallery Wrap canvases and deeply cradled wood panels with the subjects' toes and tails continuing around the edges.
Recycled materials are used whenever possible without compromising the longevity of the works.
